2006 Recap: 3000 users/14000 sites, mature service with rich features and Best AJAX Technology Provider of 2006 nomination

Year 2006 was a great year for us. We launched the service in March during the CeBIT, the gigantic IT expo that takes place in Hanover, Germany. We got very good coverage especially AjaxWorld magazine (http://ajax.sys-con.com/read/191911.htm) although it was quite a different service, than today. In March http://mon.itor.us was rather basic monitoring service; not enough stable, with relatively few protocols and a single monitoring location.

During 2006 we aggressively released new features; sometimes every week or at least every two weeks we published improvements and upgrades. Our users like the rate at which we introduce service enhancements. Below is the list of major developments:

  • 2 additional monitoring locations;
  • Support of all main instant messengers;
  • Improved email notifications (reduction of false alerts);
  • Advanced monitoring agents (greater precision performance data, more scalable backend);
  • Higher speed application;
  • Improved user interface and module;
  • Additional views, e.g. calendar and snapshot;
  • Reporting;
  • Personal Google, Yahoo, Microsoft Live and Netvibes widgets;
  • Mac widgets and support for Safari browsers;
  • French version – due to contribution from our user
  • Better chart view with history navigation;
  • More monitoring protocols, including VoIP and others, adding up to 11 protocols at present.

We conducted four customer surveys. In a recent survey, 86.4% customers surveyed said they would recommend the products to their friends, family, and colleagues. Thanks! One of our users mentions in our forum: really like the product – a very rare unique take on something that is pretty boring usually

Most of the users’ recommended features were either already released or are included in our current roadmap. We also added Forum to receive continuous feedback and suggestions. Our customers rank our service quite high as a result of which mon.itor.us is now on the first pages in Google search, number one in del.icio.us under monitoring category. At the end of 2006 mon.itor.us has 3000+ signup users with 14000 running tests. The geography of monitored sites is also impressive, as shown on the map bellow:

Finally Sourcio got nominated by AjaxWorld readers within 300 companies to “Best AJAX Technology Providers Of 2006” readers’ choice award.

Our roadmap for 2007 represents an impressive list. Currently several new features are under beta testing by the selected group of our users. Among those are visitor tracking, intranet monitoring, etc. We will also open source some of our components and will open our API to community.

One of our early 2007 releases will be a major breakthrough with a number of important advancements and UI improvements. We will continue maintaining beta status of our service until summer 2007, since it allows us to keep on adding more and more features. As indicated by a blogger in his post mon.itor.us seems the most complete free monitoring service.

We are starting new blog thread called “100 Reasons” were we will outline 100 current and coming benefits provided by mon.itor.us. Stay tuned!
